I have a VHS / DVD recorder in one. The instructions for this machine in the form of registration does not include a way to record from VHS tapes to DVD. I was hoping someone can help me platform of the machine so that I can.

It seems like the drive that you have is not a DVD recorder. You can only read DVDs.

If so, there is nothing you can do.

A combo drive is not really a good choice anyway. Most media are protected against counterfeiting today and stop transmission of the contents of the recorder. The best way is to separate units.

Unfortunately, you should have received a device that also records onto a CD-R or DVD-R. The "R" means that these discs. The machine must be made clear that such a DVD burner that prevent copying of DVDs is recorded.
Should be recorded on VHS ever. CD's and DVD's were designed primarily as a game only way to try to control illicit illegal / Copy.
Go Video is the most likely, but check before buying to ensure that their machines CD-R and DVD-R, and remember: It is difficult to copy the copy protection to burn off protected CDs.
